Part-Time Content Creation Assistant - JimDavisMTG


Position Summary

As the Content Creation Assistant (CCA), you will assist Jim Davis in conceiving, planning, and executing the day-to-day operations of the JimDavisMTG YouTube channel, Twitch channel, Discord server, and connected social media platforms.

You will take on a variety of responsibilities including video & audio editing, graphic design, project planning, social media management, and more.

If you can work both independently and collaboratively, have an eye for design and sound time management skills, and want to be a Swiss army knife for one of the most respected Magic content creators in the industry, read on!

Compensation:
  • $23 an hour
  • 15 hours a week
  • Note that this is a fairly dynamic position, with a workload that will vary from day to day and week to week. Ideally, the workload and hours will increase over time as more responsibilities are added due to growth, so this is subject to change.


    Required Skills & Knowledge

    Any candidate considered for the position must demonstrate working knowledge in the following disciplines:

  • Digital video editing (Final Cut, Premiere, Resolve, Capcut, or similar)
  • Digital image editing & graphic design (Adobe Photoshop)
  • Social media platforms (Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of Magic: the Gathering (game rules and interactions, different formats, notable cards, notable personalities, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of JimDavisMTG branding and personality (show formats, logos and iconography, etc.)
  • Independent research and learning (candidates must be capable of occasionally teaching themselves new skills)
  • Time management & scheduling

  • Other Skills & Knowledge

    Some working knowledge in the following disciplines is not required at the time of hire, but will need to be learned:

  • Streaming software (OBS or similar)
  • Discord (roles, channels, bots, and similar functions)
  • Basic audio editing (Audacity or similar)
  • Social scheduling software (Buffer, Hootsuite, Lately, or similar)

    Any candidate considered for the position must have a home computer in good working order and a strong, reliable internet connection. The ideal candidate is reliable, able to be self-sufficient, and eager to learn and improve.

    Typical Job Duties

    The duties of the CCA position will change week-to-week based on product releases and the needs of the content release cycle. Any candidate must be prepared to shift gears and manage a variety of projects at any given time. This summary represents what the position is responsible for in a typical week. Any ad hoc task will typically fall under one of these umbrellas. Percentages are an estimate only.

    Video Editing (40%)
  • Conceive, plan, execute, and distribute up to 6 short vertical videos weekly.
  • Assist Jim with other video editing projects as needed, including YouTube intros, ad reads, and sponsored videos.

  • Graphic Design / Photoshop (20%)
  • Design and execute various graphic projects including Jim’s weekly streaming schedule, promotional graphics for events and set releases, and memes or other assets for social media.

  • Social Media Management (10%)
  • Devise and execute a posting schedule for Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts.
  • Ensure all posts go live at appropriate times on appropriate platforms.

  • Community Events & Management (10%)
  • Coordinate with community moderators to plan and execute recurring events such as Poker Night, Commander Night, Piledriver Prerelease, and fantasy sports leagues.
  • Be ready to answer questions about events from mods and community members.

  • Project Management / Planning (10%)
  • Assist in building standard procedure for each set release, executing on that procedure, and reiterating and improving the procedure in the future.
  • Be involved and invested in the growth and success of the channel, providing ideas and suggestions for ways to improve all facets of the channel when appropriate.

  • Administrative (10%)
  • Handle various tasks as needed, including but not limited to collating addresses for holiday cards, collecting and collating other information, and more.
  • This may also include sourcing information about how to accomplish certain tasks, doing research on certain topics, or whatever else might come up.
